Météo-France is the French organisation responsible for supplying information nation-wide on the state of the atmosphere and the repercussions this may have on human life and property.
To meet its operational requirements, Météo-France:

  • Manages observation networks.
  • Receives and processes information supplied by geostationary or polar orbiting weather satellites.
  • Analyses all this information and feeds it into numerical prediction models, either at global scale or over areas of particular interest.
  • Transmits this information to the general public, to state services responsible for public safety and to institutional organisations in important economic sectors (aeronautic, agriculture, production and transport of energy, maritime activities, etc.).
  • Archives the measurements thus gathered to meet the needs of climate studies.

Météo-France will contribute to the meteorology activity in SIMDAT project. Météo-France will participate in the definition and specifications of the requirements and in the testing and validation of the VGISC prototype.
Together, the meteorology partners will build, operate and support a prototype of the data Grid using the output of the SIMDAT technology activity. It is planned to evolve this test bed to a comprehensive grid for the VGISC by the end of the project. It will also provide a significant experience of distributed databases in operational environments.
